CO2 Emissions from Fuel Combustion (2019 edition)

New!! 2019 first edition just released

Expires 15 April 2020

This data service contains annual time series of CO2 emissions from fossil fuel combustion, a major source of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions.

New!! (April 2019): The 2019 first edition of this online data service has just been released.

The CO2 Emissions from Fuel Combustion database contains annual CO2 emissions from fuel combustion and related indicators for more than 140 countries plus regional aggregates. Emissions were calculated using IEA energy databases and the default methods and emission factors given in the 2006 GLs for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories. This edition includes annual data for 185 countries/regions, generally from 1960 (OECD) and from 1971 (Non-OECD), unless specified differently at the country level.

FIRST EDITION

Includes full updated data up to 2017 for OECD countries and selected emerging economies.

Expanded Product Description (2019 first edition)

FINAL EDITION

Contains data for non-OECD countries not covered in the first release up to 2017 and provisional 2018 data for emissions from electricity and heat production for over 50 countries.

Expanded Product Description (2018 final edition)

The service is updated twice a year - in April with the "first edition" and in September with the "final edition".

Important note: the CO2 emission factors from electricity generation are no longer included in this data service.  They are sold as a separate product entitled Emissions Factors.
